USING THE SCIENCE OF CHRIST

From the March 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy has defined Christ as follows (p. 583): "The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error." The Christ is here revealed, not as a person in the distant past, but as "the divine manifestation of God," Principle, forever available to all for the destruction of error. Christian Science further reveals that the Christ operates through divine law. The great value to the world of Mrs. Eddy's discovery is that it reveals the Science of Christianity which Christ Jesus employed in his great work for mankind with such dependable and remarkable results.

Speaking of Christ Jesus, Peter said (Acts 4:12), "There is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Christian Science elucidates this statement. Unstable belief, however willing, cannot do the works of spiritual understanding in religion any more than it can lead to success in the realm of material research.

Only the Science of Christ, consciously and intelligently applied by the individual, can free thought from the bonds of mesmeric darkness and loose it to perceive spiritual facts, and thus unfold, develop, and soar. Jesus said (John 12:46), "I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness." The Christ in consciousness always means enlightenment to mankind. It breaks the dull inertness of mortal ignorance and lifts thought to comprehend and accept the divine grandeur of being.
