AN UNDEFILED HERITAGE

From the May 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

David sang (Ps. 16:6), "The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage."' The Bible has set on record for us the fact of man's spiritual status as the image and likeness of God, infinite Spirit. Thus in truth our inheritance as God's children consists wholly of the reflection of the perfection and unchanging goodness of the Most High. The Scriptures state either categorically or by inference that God is Spirit, Life, Truth, Mind, Soul, Love, and that He is ever present, all powerful, and all-knowing. God is one God, and the synonymous terms mentioned above are included in this oneness.

When God's infinite eternal nature is borne in mind and His all-inclusive, all powerful, omniscient character realized, it is clear that there can be no room for the existence of qualities in man outside of the eternal expression of God, good. In the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 339): "Since God is All, there is no room for His unlikeness. God, Spirit, alone created all, and called it good. Therefore evil, being contrary to good, is unreal, and cannot be the product of God."

Certain conclusions may be drawn from the foregoing general statements concerning the nature and qualities of the one infinite God, good, and of man in His image and likeness. Since God is Life, man's heritage is the reflection of Life eternal, and death has no place in it; since God is Truth, nothing "that defileth ... or maketh a lie" (Rev. 21:27) can enter man's consciousness or experience; since God is Love, one cannot in truth experience or manifest anything unloving. Hate has no reality and cannot be entertained in man, Love's expression.
