"CHOSEN VESSEL"

Acts 9:1-22

From the January 1968 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Who could believe and who accept as "chosen vessel"
This rigid Pharisee, bound by letter, code, and creed?
Destroyer!

Bent on bringing to an end the words and works
Of Christ and all who preached his name . . .
Why him?

Strong, learned, tough, unbending user of persuasive powers,
Was not this the metal needed to be reformed by fire?
Who

Could better carry a cross, unbowed beneath its weight,
Who reassure the fearful that Love could replace hate?
"Chosen vessel"? Yes!

This was God's chosen messenger, bringer of hope to all
That destroyer can become builder, for Saul became Paul.
