"This was meant just for me!"

From the December 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Have you ever stood on the shore of a lake on a moonlit evening? Did you notice how the moonlight seemed to come from the moon, across the water, directly to where you were standing? If you moved to the right or the left, the moonbeam followed you, just as though it were your own personal moonbeam.

There is a parallel between this situation and the way the understanding of Truth, God, unfolds to individuals. Often someone says, "This week's Bible Lesson In the Christian Science Quarterly; was meant just for me" or "The lecture was meant just for me" or "Your testimony was meant just for me." Whatever the situation, someone has felt that an expression of Truth did meet a particular need at the right moment. Divine Mind is constantly imparting its perfect ideas to every individual, and human consciousness receives this communication in different degrees and ways.

Examples of God's effective communication are to be found in the Bible. In Exodus we read, "God spake all these words, saying," Ex. 20:1; and then follow the Ten Commandments Moses dutifully recorded. Elijah found God's directing not in the wind or the earthquake or the fire but in the still small voice. See I Kings 19:11, 12; Christ Jesus after his baptism received a blessing in the form of a voice from heaven saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." Matt. 3:17; Regardless of how communication took place in these instances, a message was conveyed, the message was perceived, a response followed.
