LATIN AMERICAN YOUTH MEETINGS

From the April 1990 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Chileans, Brazilians, Argentinians, Uruguayans, Mexicans, Guatemalans, Venezuelans, Peruvians. Five Latin American youth meetings. Spring 1988-fall 1989. Several hundred young people, ages twelve to thirty. Some knew little of Christian Science but had responded to a friend's invitation to attend the meeting. Others were students of Christian Science.

Look at the faces on the next few pages. Not just nice, open faces but real people thinking about and finding real answers to life's challenges. What drew these young people—who could have been playing futbol (or futebol in Brazil) or getting ready to pachangear (party)—to dedicate an entire weekend to learning more about God? Perhaps the following excerpts from various talks and panel discussions show something of what brought these young people together. Many came from great distances—a twelve-hour bus ride to the meeting was not unusual!
