REFUGE AND STRENGTH

Christly Practice—your safe haven from malpractice

You can be a law to yourself. You can keep your thought fixed on God, good.

From the June 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One Thing stands out to me above all else in the life-practice of Christ Jesus: he kept his thought firmly anchored in God.

In God there is no evil, nothing harmful. Therefore, faithfully anchoring thought in God puts one in God's safekeeping. For instance, the Bible says that one time an angry mob "drove [Jesus] right out of the town, taking him to the brow of the hill on which it was built, intending to hurl him down headlong." But Jesus "walked straight through the whole crowd and went on his way." Luke 4:28-30, J. B. Phillips translation. It's clear that those who intended to harm him were not motivated by God. The evil intent behind their actions could be termed mental malpractice, in contrast with Christly practice, which has the intent to bless.

But malpractice had no power to harm Jesus, because he was fully conscious of God's presence, and because he knew that God, the only real power, was not behind such action. He proved that a consciousness faithfully adhering to God renders mental malpractice null and void.
