Not just a number in a computer

From the June 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Several Years Ago, after much soul-searching and prayer, I made a decision to move from one city to another for a different job. I rented my house in the first city. After a year and a half, I lost that job. Through prayer, I was led to move to a third city. At this same time, the renters of my house defaulted because of some financial difficulties of their own. So I put the house on the market "as is."

It all seemed quite devastating, and I was tempted to be afraid, because there was a possibility of foreclosure on the house. During the time I was working with the mortgage company, I asked a Christian Science practitioner to support me with prayer. As I actively trusted God to show me what my next steps were to be, the fear abated.

Through my study of the Bible, along with Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, I was beginning to understand that God is governing and to trust His government. Science and Health states, "The law of Christ, or Truth, makes all things possible to Spirit; but the so-called laws of matter would render Spirit of no avail, and demand obedience to materialistic codes, thus departing from the basis of one God, one lawmaker." Science and Health, pp. 182-183. I prayed diligently to perceive how His law applied to my situation. I began to see God as He truly is: supreme wisdom, almight power, our rock of strength, ruling out even the possibility of evil. His omnipotent, omnipresent law reigns continuously.
