GETTING AT THE HEART OF THE BIBLE involves inspiration and study. And for some students, it might mean a couple of Bible translations.
The New International Version (or NIV) is a careful translation, committed to accuracy and literary grace. Originally published in 1978 after ten years of intensive research and editing, its primary goal was "to communicate the word of God to the hearts of people." The translation involved a cross-denominational team of over 100 scholars who worked directly with the best available Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. These scholars came from the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, giving the project its international scope. They also represented more than 20 denominations.
