God knits

From the June 2011 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The knit stitch—not the opposite
of purl but the reflection.
Knit one side—the other purls.

Each stitch follows the same laws:
order, harmony—binding
together something beautiful while
I see only one side at a time.

Sometimes in darkness
the purl’s noose may be all I see,
but turn that thought around
and the noose becomes like a scarf
to protect me from the cold chill
and comfort me in divine Love.

God has a pattern He follows.
He knows what He’s making.
I may only see a facet of God’s law
from the evidence of His knit
in my reflected purl.
But with each stitch we take
in our journey in Life
the design becomes more clear.

We have a long way to go
before we bind off
but Mind will guide me
because

God knits
therefore I purl.
