Healing in the classroom

Being an elementary school teacher gave me numerous opportunities to put into practice my understanding of God and God’s harmonious creation. One opportunity concerned a meeting regarding the best placement of a student in my classroom. This meeting was to be attended by a number of people, including a child advocate and a child psychologist. I wanted to present my thoughts about what was best for the child, but I was very anxious that it was going to be a confrontational meeting and that I would be intimidated by the presence of those who were not representatives of the school. 

On the morning of the meeting, I was preparing for my day by praying to know God’s plan for all of His creation, and I was studying the Christian Science Bible Lesson. One of the citations in the Lesson that week was Psalm 19, verse 14: “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” As I pondered that verse, I realized that God, divine Mind, was putting the words in my mouth, as He had done for Moses. God would be with my mouth. My motive—the “meditation of my heart”—was to glorify God and to see that God’s children are all in the place which He has established for us. 

I felt free and confident that I really could trust God to enable me to say what needed to be shared. The meeting went harmoniously, and I was able to present the information that was helpful in determining the best placement for this child.
