'Soaring' over shadows

- Practice, Practice, Practice

Last year was my first year as a member of the track and field team at my college. I quickly took up the longer distances, such as the 3,000 meter and 5,000 meter races. There was one particular race, the last one of the season, where I had the most beautiful and complete healing demonstration through Christian Science. 

My friend and I were warming up, doing all the normal pre-race preparations in the grassy field in the center of the track, when I felt terrible pains in my stomach. They were hard to ignore because it felt as if someone were punching me. I thought that it might be anxiety about the race. I grew worried that the pains wouldn’t go away in the ten minutes before I was to head to the starting line. So I told my friend how I was feeling and then made my way over to the stadium, where my track bag was lying in the stands. I reached in and pulled out my Christian Science Hymnal, which has been with me at every track meet, every volleyball match, and every family vacation. I decided to flip through the Hymnal randomly and find whatever inspiration God had for me.

I turned to Hymn 149. The entire hymn was completely perfect, but with such little time, I picked just a few parts to hold on to during my race. Part of the second verse goes like this:
