The snowy egret

- Practice, Practice, Practice

On the beach, I came to a snowy egret standing by the water. It did not move as I got closer. The wind was ruffling its feathers, and at first I thought it was this breeze which kept some of them hanging down. Then I realized that one wing was quite broken.

I sat down and talked to the bird for a while. It looked at me but didn’t move. Then it occurred to me forcefully that the care the good Samaritan showed in the Bible was tangible (see Luke 10:30–37). So I went back to my mom’s house and contacted wildlife rescue people on the island. In 20 minutes, one of them called me back to assure me that he had the bird and they were on their way to a sanctuary.

The next day, I seriously injured my foot on the beach. The spiritual truth that there are no missteps in God, and that He is caring for me and all, released me from pain overnight. A day later I was walking miles and miles in Manhattan without a problem.
