The Lake of Fire

From the August 1886 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The lake which burneth with fire and brim stone, which is the second death.

Revelation xxi. 8.

What has always been claimed in regard to this Lake of Fire? That it is Hell, forever the abode of Satan and his angels, and of the lost. The existence, typified by the Lake which burneth with Fire and Brimstone, has always been claimed by Satan and for Satan. For this very reason, we, in Truth, know that it is not so. We know that whatever error makes the strongest claims upon really belongs to the highest statement of God, or divine Love; else error would not make this claim. The higher the Truth, the stronger must be the claim of error to counterfeit Truth. The Lake of Fire has been the strongest and final claim of error, which shows that it is really the highest state attainable in God, which, being attained, reveals to us the Heavenly City, the Tree of Life, and everything in Heaven, forever and ever.
