Christian Science was brought to my notice in August, 1905. through the healing of a dear sister, who for many years had suffered from asthmatic trouble, weakness of the heart, etc. She had been pronounced incurable by four doctors, but through Christian Science she was cured in a very short time. This truth interested and appealed to me very much, for I never could understand how God, a loving heavenly Father, could send sickness and suffering to His children, as I had been taught to believe. At this time my mother was in a helpless condition from rheumatic trouble; she had suffered from it for years, and in spite of all the doctors could do she was getting worse and worse, until at length the doctors told her they could do nothing more for her on account of her age—sixty-seven. This was in October, 1905; she was quite helpless, unable to move hand or foot. The Christian Science practitioner who had treated my sister then took up my mother's case, and slowly but surely the truth was revealed to her. By Easter, 1906, my mother was able to walk about and perform her daily duties without any pain or inconvenience. This was all done through absent treatment, for the practitioner never saw my mother till after she was healed. Before these cases of healing Christian Science had never been heard of in this district, and so complete are the cures that they are looked upon as miracles.
It is with the deepest love and gratitude that I send this testimony of the blessings we have received through Christian Science. The study of the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," has shown us that God is an ever-present help. I know that a beautiful and joyous light has entered into my life through Christian Science, and I am indeed grateful to God, and to that noble woman, Mrs. Eddy, who has done so much for humanity. My great desire is to show my gratitude by helping others to gain a fuller understanding of this glorious truth, and I rejoice that one was found pure enough to give this pearl of great price to a suffering world.
