About the middle of November, 1906, I was taken with a dreaded illness. I was at home and in bed for three weeks, and as I became worse was finally taken to a hospital. There I had to undergo an operation, after which all seemed well except that I was in constant pain, but the physician said this would in time leave me, and I returned home. After eight weeks the pain increased so much that I had to return to the hospital, where the physician diagnosed the case as a dangerous internal growth, which must be removed by an immediate operation. Again I submitted to an operation, after which I was very weak, and grew worse instead of better. The consulting physicians agreed it would be necessary to operate again, but my condition became so alarming that my parents were called at ten o'clock in the evening, and later in the night a minister and the physician were summoned. It seemed as if the end had come; but man's extremity is God's opportunity, and He never forsakes us. He sent me help through an aunt, who brought me to Christian Science. This was on a Sunday, and the next day, which was May 6, my mother went to see a practitioner, who took the case immediately.
After the first treatment the pain diminished, and I noticed that my condition was rapidly improving, for I slept the following night. On Tuesday the practitioner came to the hospital with my mother, and gave me a present treatment. When I said the next morning that I would like to get up for an hour, the physicians were surprised. In the afternoon I was up again and longer. After that, I was well enough to be wheeled into the garden. The almighty power of divine Love did not forsake me, and my improvement was so rapid that by May 9 the physicians said that I could be dismissed from the hospital, and that a miracle had been performed which was beyond human reason. At noon I left the hospital, and walked home. When I appeared at our door my parents did not know whether it was I or a specter. The growth had been dissolved, and the purulent matter passed off without pain.
I wish to express my gratitude to God for the blessing He has given us in Christian Science; and I wish to thank our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, through whom humanity have been enabled to find the way of salvation. Since I came to Christian Science I have felt well and strong as nevei before. I have not only received these physical blessings, but have spiritually gained the true understanding of Life. — Hannover, Germany.
