With love and gratitude for our Leader and our Cause, I wish to tell of some good work that has been accomplished for us in Christian Science. My husband was afflicted with a severe nervous trouble, accompanied by great pain and vomiting. Physicians had tried every known medical remedy to give relief when these attacks came on, but nothing would do so, except hypodermic injections. Being a traveling man, and needing to call physicians at points all over the central states, he was finally advised by a physician to carry morphine with him and use the hypodermic himself whenever necessary. It was not long before he became a slave to the habit, and was in this condition for about four years, taking the drug in large quantities. He endured the tortures of three different so-called "cures" without receiving any benefit, and was rapidly growing worse, both physically and financially. He looked into Christian Science off and on for about a year, and as a last resort, but with little hope or faith, he asked for treatment. Within thirty-six hours all desire for the drug had disappeared.
This was four years ago, and during that time he has never used any material remedies. The attacks which had required the drug, and which doctors had always declared would cause death unless relieved in that way, were very severe and frequent for the first year, but were always overcome by Christian Science treatment. There are some physical conditions still to be overcome, also reformation in ourselves; but we have received much benefit, and the healing of this one dreadful condition is a proof that all inharmonies must some time yield to the power of Truth.— Osage, Ia.
