From the August 1909 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am a living witness to the fact that the disease called aneurism can be healed. I give this testimony for publication at the request of friends, prompted by their reading of an article from the Associated Press concerning a man in an eastern city who was afflicted just as I had been. The doctors were trying to prolong his days by using electricity and other means, but they were all agreed that he could not be healed — they only hoped to relieve him for the little time he had to live.

In my own case this so-called incurable disease was developed several years ago, as the result of a severe mental strain while passing through the deepest sorrow that ever comes to mortals. Not knowing anything of this particular disease, I paid little or no attention to it until the enlargement of the artery had become so distressing I could scarcely breathe at all. I allowed this condition to run on many months, thinking I could overcome it myself; but it grew steadily worse, until one day I pondered seriously over this statement: "If students do not readily heal themselves, they should early call an experienced Christian Scientist to aid them" (Science and Health, p. 420). I then sought a Christian Science practitioner in Chicago and asked for absent treatment, as I was at that time on my way to California. She talked to me very lovingly for nearly two hours that day, and said she would do all that she could to help me. I do not know how many treatments she gave me, but this I do know, that in a very short time I was perfectly healed; not a sign or symptom of the disease is left.

Mere words are poor expressions of appreciation for the help thus received, and I am striving each day to prove my gratitude to Almighty God, and to Mrs. Eddy, our beloved Leader, by being about my Father's business.
