THE angels' question upon the occasion of our Lord's ascension, "Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven," rebukes human unfaith today respecting the coming of the Comforter whom Christ Jesus said he would send. To the faithful students of Christian Science nothing is more conspicuous and astonishing than the sudden illumination of the Bible that follows even a slight understanding of Truth as it has been revealed to them. This sacred volume, which with many had been read in rather a perfunctory way as a religious duty, and with a somewhat blind acceptance of its value, suddenly becomes (now that the "Key" is found which unlocks it's treasures) the most valuable and interesting volume in the world. It becomes the history of the unfolding in individual and universal consciousness of a knowledge of God, of Him whom to know aright, as Jesus taught, "is life eternal."
To an awakened consciousness Christ Jesus stands out in such a transcendent light and splendor of achievement as the great example for all humanity, that every so-called hero of history pales into insignificance in comparison; while the wonder is that all mortals are called to love, admire, and emulate his glorious character and his mighty works. "He that believeth on me [or understands me], the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." Could any event on earth today be of such importance as an explication of this life?
We are often interested yet disappointed in the many elaborate but vague explanations of what and who is that Comforter whom Jesus said he would send from the Father. Trinitarians even declare his masculinity as one of the trinity, because Jesus used the words, "When he is come." Jesus' words of definition are both direct and explicit as to the Comforter and his mission. He says: "When the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me."
