I am glad to tell something of what Christian Science has done for me, and hope it will help some who may be in the same bondage in which I was. From girlhood I had suffered from a bowel disorder, and for fifteen years had always resorted to material means for temporary relief. I also suffered so much from a rheumatic affection that I could not rest in bed. I was in the hands of eminent doctors, who gave me drugs and ordered me abroad. I went to a number of famous health resorts on the Continent, but without being in the least benefited.
Two years ago, as I was nearly frantic with pain, I again consulted a doctor, who said he could do nothing more for me, and that the best plan would be for me to go abroad. When I told my husband what he had said, he remarked, "Why not have a talk with a Christian Scientist?" I am thankful indeed that I did so, and that I placed myself in a practitioner's hands. For the first week I thought I would help God a little, as I could not realize that it was possible to be cured without material means, but the practitioner asked me again and again to put my whole trust in God, saying that He who is All-in-all would surely help me. I did as she advised, and in a week I was better; in another week the pains had entirely gone.
I now enjoy the most perfect health, better in fact than I ever did. Life is now a joyous one,—no medicine, no restrictions as to food,—and with a stout heart I am able to face wind and rain and successfully overcome error when it would fain appear. I am thankful to God that I am relieved from the agonies I suffered, and truly grateful for having been shown that God is omnipotent and omnipresent, and that He keeps those who put their trust in Him. I am also grateful to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for again placing before the world the wonderful knowledge of Truth.—Edinburgh, Scotland
