Christian Science found me a little more than three years ago at the end of a battle for health and for life, a struggle which had lasted over four years, with doctors and hospitals, with medicines, the surgeon's knife, special diet, and mountain air all failing to give the desired relief. At the end of three and a half years of suffering, I was informed by my home physician that he could do nothing more for me, and advised me to try a noted surgeon of New York city. I did so, and I was under his care for ten months, part of this time being spent in the higher altitude of the Blue Ridge mountains, with the result that the conditions were much more serious at the end than at the beginning, the disease having terminated in what was pronounced tuberculosis of the bowels.
I had indeed reached "man's extremity," and in turning to Christian Science I found "God's opportunity." A catarrhal condition of the stomach, with attendant ills, responded at the first treatment, and within two weeks I laid aside glasses, to which I had been a slave for eighteen years. The last pair of lenses had been specially made, and I was cautioned by the oculist to be very careful of what sight remained. The tubercular conditions were overcome in about three months, permitting me to return to active employment.
For these many blessings I am truly grateful; but my gratitude to God for the spiritual regeneration and uplifting, for the peace and the assurance and the joy of living which I have found in Christian Science, is more than I can express. I shall, however, strive, as taught by our beloved Leader, to live the truth which sets free, and bring it daily to others who need its unfailing aid.— Newark, N. J.
