Testimonies of Healing

Some five years ago I was asked if...

From the March 1918 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Some five years ago I was asked if I would accommodate a lady in my home for a month. At the time I was not inclined to do so, but thinking it would not be right to refuse I consented to her coming. The following Sunday when she returned from church I asked where she went, and was surprised to find that in our city there was a Christian Science church. I was interested in coming across one person who believed in doing without a medical doctor. I offered to go to church with her on the next Sunday (although I had not attended any church for twenty years), and enjoyed the quiet service. I then began to read the first chapter in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and the word doubt arrested my attention. I saw that all along I had been doubting that God was both willing and able to keep me from falling.

Shortly afterward I remarked to the lady that in my own mind I believed in what I had read in the textbook. She quietly replied, "But there is only one Mind." I asked, "Do you mean to tell me I have no mind of my own?" Again she quietly said, "There is only one Mind." I thought a moment, and then said I was glad to hear it. I did not doubt that it was true. Next morning when about to take my usual tonic, as I was not considered strong, I stopped, and the word doubt again presented itself. I reasoned with myself, saying that if there is only one Mind, that Mind knows better than I do what I need, and decided there and then to rely on divine Mind. I had been threatened with a complication of diseases, but almost instantaneously I was lifted out of all thought of the body into the realm of Spirit, and all forms of sickness disappeared, including varicose veins, which had held me in bondage for years, stomach disorder, kidney trouble, and a growth on the eye.

This revelation of God as the only Mind has met all my needs for five years, and I have had no other help than that obtained from studying our beloved Leader's writings together with the Bible, for which I express my heartfelt thankfulness to God. I have experienced the "peace of God which passeth all understanding" and something of the perfect love which casteth out fear. For these gifts of Spirit, through the study of Christian Science, I am indeed grateful; also to the messenger who brought this truth into my home. She was a stranger and I took her in; she is now our friend, and has remained with us all these years. My desire is that all whom I know and love may be renewed as I have been through the understanding of God as the only Mind and of man made in the image of Spirit reflecting this Mind, as explained in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.—
