Testimonies of Healing

From the August 1918 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am very grateful indeed for the spiritual understanding that has come to me through Christian Science, and for all the peace and comfort it has brought me. It is now over eight years since I commenced the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and during this time it has unlocked the treasures of the Bible and guided me step by step in my journey from sense to Soul. At times the way has seemed dark, but always there has been a sense of peace which is most comforting. I am daily proving that sin and sickness are not of God, and am overcoming the wrong thoughts which held me in bondage to them.

I have been healed of a chronic disorder for which medicine in increasing quantity was taken almost daily. After studying Science and Health for a month I suddenly realized that I must trust God alone for my health; and this thought gave me courage to stop taking the medicine that same day. Since then I have never used material remedies of any kind. At first I found it necessary to ask a practitioner for help, and thereby I was inspired to trust Truth and go forward. As a result, through prayer and a steady gain of spiritual understanding I came out of this condition of bondage. I also suffered from constant severe colds, and was in great fear of contagion, of drafts, and of cold weather generally. I saw the need of turning to Truth alone for help, and I held on, though for a long time there seemed to be no improvement; then I was lifted right out of this condition also, and since then I scarcely know what it is to have a cold. These two experiences were to me wonderful proofs that the word of Truth is powerful, and I gained an abiding sense of God's love and nearness which is steadily growing.

My gratitude to our noble Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has steadily increased as I have grown to understand her teachings and all that her life work means to humanity. The Lesson-Sermons help me day by day, and I eagerly look for our periodicals, which never fail to meet my needs. The Monitor is broadening my outlook and I am learning to appreciate it more every day. Daily I am experiencing fresh proofs of the glorious possibilities of Christian Science when applied to our everyday problems. I can never be grateful enough for all that this truth means to me.—
