Testimonies of Healing

Gratitude for benefits received...

From the April 1919 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Gratitude for benefits received prompts me to write this testimony. A little over a year ago I became deeply interested in the study of Christian Science. From the time my little girl was eight or nine months old she had recurring attacks of what the physicians called bronchial pneumonia. When the physician said he could do no more for her, my aunt, who for many years had been interested in Christian Science, asked me if I would try it. J did so, and in a few days the child was quite herself again.

She was not troubled again for months; but with the cold, wintry days she had another attack, and I was tempted to believe that error had power to produce sickness. She grew worse during the day, although I tried to demonstrate die little I knew of Science. It seemed doubly hard, because I had a cold and sore throat myself. About midnight I could stand it no longer, so I called my sister, and although she was suffering from toothache, I told her that I had decided to go to see the practitioner. We therefore started out in the wee hours of the morning to walk nearly a mile. There was a cold, freezing rain; in fact, I had never been out in such weather. My only thought was that if I could reach the practitioner, the child would be saved; for to mortal sense her condition was such that it seemed she might pass on at any minute. We awoke the practitioner with our knocking, and she came down. She talked to us and tried to dear our consciousness. In a short time my sister was relieved of the toothache, and the soreness in my throat disappeared. We stayed there until after four o'clock in the morning, and on returning home I found the child asleep, although her breathing was labored. About, eight o'clock she wanted to come downstairs and have breakfast, and by ten o'clock she was running about the house. Her healing had been almost instantaneous.

Any prejudice I had toward Christian Science entirely vanished before this proof of "God with us." I can only add that I am most thankful to God and grateful to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for this proof of the power of Truth.—
