In loving gratitude for all that Christian Science has done and is daily doing for me I send this testimony. In the year 1912 I was in a very discordant mental and physical condition. There was apparently not a sound bodily organ. I was suffering principally from hernia, blood poisoning, extreme nervousness and irritability, facial eruption, and stomach trouble. In addition to all this I was so unhappy and hopeless that I did not care to live. I was trying to cling to the good received in the church in which I had been reared, helping in the Sunday school and assisting in various other church activities, but this did not give me the understanding of the healing, spiritual truths which were taught by the Master.
When everything seemed darkest and a great sorrow had come into our home life, bringing an added burden of discouragement, the thought kept coming to me to try Christian Science. I had heard a great deal of the healing work done by its followers, but knew nothing of the spiritual light that comes through the study of its teachings. Finally I sought a practitioner, and only those who have had a similar experience can appreciate what a wonderful light dawned on me as he explained that as a child of God I could not be unhappy, sick, or discouraged. This was surely speaking in a new tongue to me, and a great load of grief and trouble seemed lifted from my shoulders. It was so manifestly different from the advice given by those who had tried to explain things in the old way. At once I determined to leave all else behind and rely absolutely on this religion which could lift me so completely in less than an hour and pierce so quickly the thick clouds of error that seemed to encompass me. It seemed to me that was the day of a new birth; I knew absolutely that a power had come into my life which would never leave it.
I purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and shall never forget the wonderful result of the first reading of this illuminating book. From then on, each day meant simply another day to read and study all I could. I visited the reading rooms at every opportunity, so anxious was I to drink in this healing truth. Then the Bible became illumined as I read it with understanding, and there was such a marked change in my life and appearance that friends and neighbors noticed it. Several members of the family became interested in Christian Science through seeing what a transformation it was bringing about in my life. Since that time many, many blessings have come to the family.
