Testimonies of Healing

"Lift up your heads, O ye gates...

From the April 1919 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in." Surely those who are earnest students of Christian Science have lifted up their heads and into their lives is coming "the King of glory." Of this they are sure, for each day in an ever increasing degree they are overcoming sin and sickness, want and woe, in the way the Master commanded.

Christian Science came into my life just before leaving college, and I joyously accepted it as the "pearl of great price," because I saw from investigation the shallowness of man made beliefs and interpretations. Immediately after attending a Wednesday evening meeting for the first time I found myself healed, and permanently so, of bowel trouble of years' standing, and the smoking habit left a few weeks later as a result of reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. In the years that have followed, my work has been such that I have heard Christian Science maligned from every conceivable standpoint; but to-day I am able to say as did Paul, "None of these things move me." Rather have they made me stronger, for to be true to myself I had to investigate the claims and overturn in thought many preconceived ideas and false, educated beliefs. Because of this I can appreciate more deeply the great work of our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and of those who are standing at the front, in the Christian Science movement.

When our country entered the war to overthrow evil and establish fraternity and enduring peace, I held to the thought that "in Science, divine Love alone governs man" (Manual, Art. VIII, Sect. 1) and leads the way, and by constant mental effort (effectual prayer) the way opened so that I came into my right place naturally. Since then I have had many proofs of God's love and care, for which I wish to express my thankfulness. I am most grateful for the protection that Christian Science has afforded and is affording me daily. At the time of vaccination and inoculation I experienced no difficulty, but rather was able to help, in a measure, those about me. Later, when given extremely difficult work which to human sense seemed beyond my ability, I turned entirely to Principle, God, as the source of all intelligent activity and realized that with Him "all things are possible." By the elimination of fear and steadfast adherence to the law of God, good, I have succeeded in my work and am rejoicing in its daily unfoldment.
