Twelve years ago, when I first turned to Christian Science for help, I had the great joy of recovering the sight of my right eye, which four of the best oculists in England had pronounced destroyed, and of being freed from a condition of both eyes which obliged me to have the eyelids burned every fortnight, kept me half the time in a darkened room, and never allowed me to go out of doors without blue glasses and two or three veils. Since then, with two exceptions due to shock and sorrow, I have enjoyed exceptionally good health; but not long ago I had an experience of the power of Christian Science to help quickly and fully, which I should like to share with others.
One morning I awoke with my eyes badly inflamed. For two days I stayed indoors and tried to overcome the trouble for myself; but then, as they had improved very little, and I had work to do which necessitated my going out, I wrote to a practitioner for help. My letter reached her on a Wednesday, and on Thursday, as I was sitting knitting with my back to the light, I suddenly knew that I was healed. The inflammation had passed entirely away, and on Saturday I went out to the canteen in which I help, through melting snow underfoot and thaw fog overhead, without the slightest fear, and with no bad results.
I am grateful for this healing, but still more so for the work of Christian Science in the overcoming of fear, so that I can meet inharmonious conditions when they seem to present themselves, in the full assurance that they must disappear before a recognition of the truth of being, that truth which Jesus lived and which Mrs. Eddy has explained in words from which thousands of men and women draw their spiritual sustenance day by day.—Petersfield, England.
