Testimonies of Healing

I have so much to be grateful for...

From the November 1920 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have so much to be grateful for that I hardly know where to start. For the past three years I have been a student of Christian Science, and each day some blessing comes to me in such a way that I recognize in it the result of my slight understanding of this wonderful truth.

I was healed of a disorder which had been getting worse each year, until I was a nervous wreck. Sleep was becoming an impossibility without narcotics and I was obliged entirely to give up the fight every six weeks or so and go to bed for a week or two, sometimes with the help of a trained nurse. Being a business woman and entirely dependent upon my own earning capacity for supply (as I then thought), this was becoming almost unbearable. I was led to Christian Science at a time when things were very black to me; my healing did not take place for two years. I fell down, as a tiny child does when learning to walk, many times; however, I held on with all my might; why, I did not know, but chiefly because I had nothing else to turn to. I had tried everything but an operation which I had been told was necessary by every physician who examined me, and I was afraid to submit to that. In Christian Science, however, it was all met, including fear.

Since this healing, so many beautiful things have come to me. For twelve years I had made my home in apartment houses and hotels. My future looked uninviting and I was becoming most unhappy, especially because it seemed that the noise from my surroundings interfered greatly with my studying. However, I knew there was some harmonious place for me and commenced to look for a tiny flat which I could furnish modestly and call my home. I needed good car service and also wanted to be near a Christian Science church. I looked at many, but was finally directed to one within my means and exactly what I wanted. In furnishing it I found nothing but love and harmony manifested by merchants and neighbors. This again proved to me that harmony is our birthright. At this same time I began giving thought to my business surroundings, which had not been very harmonious for some time past. One month after going to a practitioner for treatment, I was invited to fill a position in beautiful surroundings, with work which I was familiar with and loved to do. Right here came another healing. Since a tiny child I had great fear when near a window that was high above the ground. My new office was on the eleventh floor and I looked out of my windows with horror at first, but immediately went to work to overcome it, and now I have no fear whatever when obliged to open or close the windows.
