Before taking up the study of...

From the March 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Before taking up the study of Christian Science I was a so-called nervous wreck, a veritable slave to fear. I had experienced nervous collapses at different times, being forced to give up my studies and work. I was wearing glasses and expected that it would always be necessary to wear them because I had astigmatism, the eyes did not focus properly, and weak muscles caused the eyes to have a tendency to cross. The glasses were laid off as soon as I began to read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and realized that Christian Science teaches the truth about God and man, which heals. I have never worn them since, and do not need them. I was having trouble with my ears, and had been told by two prominent specialists that an operation was necessary or I should lose my hearing from catarrhal deafness. I did not have the necessary money at that time, so the operation was never performed. The trouble was entirely overcome through the application of the truth as taught in Christian Science.

My husband and I have been able to work out problems in business, and have proved many times that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need," as our faithful Leader tells us on page 494 of the Christian Science textbook. I know that only by living this religion of Love can I fully express gratitude for Christian Science. —
