Over thirteen years ago I began attending Christian Science Wednesday evening testimony meetings in a casual way. Many of those who testified used the expression "spiritual understanding." This term conveyed nothing to me at the time, but I thought I should like to find out what it meant. I therefore bought a Bible, a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and a Christian Science Quarterly, and began to study in earnest, with the prayer in my heart, "O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me." Mrs. Eddy says on page 586 of Science and Health: "Eyes. Spiritual discernment,—not material but mental." Before I had read half through the book, I found to my amazement that I could read without glasses, which had been worn since childhood. Astigmatism and ulcers had disappeared during the search for spiritual understanding. Eye specialists in Belfast, London, Budapest, and Hannover had, from time to time, prescribed stronger glasses, but never held out any hope of a cure. Words fail to express my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for having discovered and given to the world, through her writings, this spiritual understanding of Christ Jesus' words and works.
Since then I have experienced many healings from contagious diseases, some of them instantaneous, and from the effects of accidents (in one case a dislocated ankle); also from corns, cuts, and other ills. For all this I am truly grateful to our Father-mother God.—Dublin, Ireland.
