Testimonies of Healing

The first I knew of Christian Science...

From the March 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The first I knew of Christian Science was through attending the Sunday school when a small child, my parents having taken up the study of Christian Science at that time. I am now a member of The Mother Church, also of one of the branch churches. I attended the Christian Science Sunday School regularly up to the age of twenty (as specified in The Mother Church Manual), which was until a few months ago. I am very happy to say I was then given the privilege of teaching in the Sunday school. This beautiful truth about God, man, and the real universe has been applied for every seeming discord, whether physical or mental, and has proved to be all-powerful in destroying evil. I am grateful for every experience which makes my faith in God stronger.

I should like to relate one healing which proved to me that we cannot receive the blessings which are rightfully ours without putting forth every needed effort. During the greater part of my childhood the hardest problem to overcome was that of colds. This condition, when manifested, would always be met with the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner or of my mother; but it persisted in returning at frequent intervals. When I was about fifteen years old, a cold appeared, and remained for several months. All the time help was being given, through Christian Science treatment, and I read the lesson daily as given in the Christian Science Quarterly. However, there was still some erroneous condition in my consciousness that had to be destroyed, for I did not get relief. One day it dawned upon me that I must take more interest in Christian Science and live its teachings every day. I realized I myself had a cross to take up and bear; that my mother could not bear it for me all my life. From that moment I know the healing took place, for the cold entirely disappeared.

Since that time my greatest desire has been to express more of the real man, God's child, made in the image and likeness of God; and every day I have reason to be grateful for this step, which stirred the desire to know and understand more about God.
