Testimonies of Healing

I think I can safely say that...

From the May 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I think I can safely say that were it not for what Christian Science has done for me during the past two years, I would not be here today, not because I have been saved by it from any fatal disease, but because my general mental and physical condition was gradually driving me to the serious contemplation of suicide.

I had every ill which, according to materia medica, is supposed to herald nervous breakdown. I was extremely sensitive, neurasthenic, violent, brutal to myself and others, was losing my memory, and hated everything and everybody, because I felt that every one I knew misunderstood me. I had chronic stomach trouble, what appeared to be pyorrhea, sleeplessness, headaches, and a feeling similar to pressure on the brain. I was at the time living alone on a ranch about five hundred miles from the city of Buenos Aires. I wrote to London for help in Christian Science, but apparently got no relief; already I had failed to get any relief from the little understanding I had of it. Worst of all my troubles, there were points in Christian Science that I could not understand, despite the practitioner's attempts to elucidate them. He advised me to turn to a local practitioner, as he felt a personal interview would be helpful.

For a long time error argued that I should not discuss the difficult points with a local practitioner, because they might not be properly explained. My fear was that if the points in question were not answered satisfactorily, it would rob me of my last hope,—God. I was continually losing my positions, owing to irritability and impatience, which, though held in check, so consumed my vitality that I just felt I could not go on. In this mental state I finally turned to a local practitioner.
