OMNIPRESENCE

From the May 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not."—Genesis 28:16.

My storm-tossed ship adrift upon
A sea, wind-driven, wild!
Drear, darkening clouds that hide the sun—
Hath God forgot His child?
Comes quick rebuke to fear and doubt:
Seek Him through trustful prayer.
I prayed; 'twas calm within, without.
Peace proved that God was there!
What of the storm? Love fills all space.
Twas I who had forgot;
For lo, the Lord was in the place,
The while I knew it not.

Anon, cares seem my joy to steal,
And flesh with chains would bind.
Thou, Lord, my troubled sense can heal,
If I Thy truth but find.
The answer comes, Be patient, seek
And know one holy power;
And hearken well, His truth shall speak
E'en in thy darkest hour.
What of those lies? Love fills all space.
Again I had forgot;
For lo, the Lord was in the place
The while I knew it not.
