Out of a heart full of gratitude to God, to Christ Jesus, and to Mrs. Eddy, the God-inspired woman who has given "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" with its wonderful revelation of the truth about God and man to all humanity, this testimony is given. From the lowest depths of physical and mental misery I was lifted to the heights of health, peace, and joy in less than three days through the reading of the Bible and Science and Health. My mother was a Christian; and though she passed on when I was only ten years old, she taught me to love God and the Bible, and to look to Him for the supplying of all my needs.
I was a delicate and sickly child, and suffered from pain and weakness. This sense of suffering increased as I grew older, being very frequently complicated by attacks of indigestion, malaria, throat trouble, weak heart, rheumatism, grippe, and other disorders, accompanied by extreme nervousness. I was treated by many physicians, and took much medicine of all sorts except opiates, which I positively refused to take. Nothing helped me long at a time. It was in this condition of semi-invalidism that I grew to womanhood, married, and reared children of my own.
Years passed, and in my fifty-ninth year I reached the point where medicine failed to give even temporary relief, and I was told that an incurable organic trouble had developed. I could take little nourishment, and could sleep only a short time. One day while I was in this hopeless state, my daughter told me she had a friend who had been cured by reading a book on Christian Science, and asked me if I would read it. Strange to say, I had never heard of it. Without a thought of help from it, I said, "If it is Christian I will read it."
