When I first found Christian Science...

From the May 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When I first found Christian Science I was in a very weakened, anæmic condition. A friend brought "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy into our home. I read this book continually and felt immediate relief; also, a chronic catarrhal condition improved very much.

A little later I was stricken with typhoid fever. At this time the help of a Christian Science practitioner was called for. The battle seemed hard, but finally the infinite God of love healed me, and I was free indeed. During this period of fever I became deaf, but in a few weeks my hearing was again normal. Also, the ability to walk seemed to have gone; but two weeks after I left my bed, I was in my office at work, standing up at filing cases the greater part of the day. With this physical healing there came to me a very clear sense of the great truth that God is indeed man's Life.

The anæmic condition seemed stubborn; but I lived in the hope of its yielding. At this time I began an earnest watching of my motives. I found resentment back of much I was saying and doing. The physical condition seemed so aggravated that I again called for the help of a Christian Science practitioner. It was very clear to me that resentment was causing this sickly condition. Again another battle waged; but in due time a complete change took place in my consciousness. A feeling of love, patience, good-will, and tolerance was filling the place of resentment and pride. Then came a desire to bring out higher work as teacher of a Sunday school class, and a love for my daily work in the office; and daily strength was added for the daily need. The transformation was so luminous that all sense of dull routine and monotony disappeared, and a better realization of man's reflection of Truth and Love was steadily gained. Then came the awakening. I was again free! The anæmic condition had disappeared from thought, and in place of resentful and hurtful beliefs, thoughts of love, peace, and good-will reigned.
