"BE YE THEREFORE PERFECT"

From the June 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

BE ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect," is the command of Christ Jesus; and though it may appear difficult of attainment in this materialistic age, yet perfection will be demonstrated when absolute obedience to Christ becomes the law of one's life, and spiritually exalted thought is continually maintained.

The quest of the Christian is to find God and to understand Him. The office of the Christ-spirit is to unfold the good, bring it to the light, exalt and unfold it until we learn to choose unfalteringly the good and to reject the seeming evil. The divine plan is to perpetuate perfection throughout the realm of His spiritual creation. There is need of daily, hourly, constant watchfulness lest we forget the goal of ultimate perfection. In all the activities of daily life, the divine model should ever be kept in view, and we should patiently labor to express the divine ideal.

Perfection has always existed in the divine Mind; and the highest human expression of perfection was manifested in the words and works of Jesus, who constantly denied imperfect material sense testimony, and declared the presence of perfect spiritual sense. By so doing he was able to reflect absolute spiritual power. Life grows in dignity and beauty when it is lived for the things of eternity; and this can be accomplished through unselfed love. Through consecrated service, joy to do the will of God, to manifest love, faith, and good-fellowship, one is armed with authority and power, and becomes conscious of heaven here and now. Also, he is able to heal the sick and uplift the sinner. Love is the guiding star leading men to perfection.
