"O RECORDING ANGEL! WRITE"

From the June 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IN a letter addressed to The Mother Church, to be found on pages 141 and 142 of "Miscellaneous Writings," Mrs. Eddy says: "Of our first church in Boston, O recording angel! write: God is in the midst of her: how beautiful are her feet! how beautiful are her garments! how hath He enlarged her borders! how hath He made her wildernesses to bud and blossom as the rose!"

Mrs. Eddy established the authorized Christian Science periodicals, including the Journal and the Sentinel, as a means whereby the unfoldment of the spiritual understanding of Church in individual consciousness could be expressed and given out to the world. She invited members of The Mother Church to contribute articles for these publications; while to the multitude which were receiving healing through Christian Science was given an opportunity to send in testimonies. The periodicals are published under the supervision of an editorial staff. Truly, the articles, the editorials, and the testimonies of healing bear living witness to the fact that "God is in the midst" of this Church.

"How beautiful are her feet!" Although the healing power of Truth has often been proved to mortals under the most trying human experiences, when the message of healing is given out through the periodicals it bears not the mark of the soil and dust of materialism. No reality is made of the sickness, sorrow, or sin which has been overcome through a knowledge of Truth; only the health, joy, and peace gained thereby are evidenced. In writing an article, the author may destroy many written sheets of paper before the idea which has been revealed by Mind is expressed in words suitable to appear in the periodicals; but" the finished page does not chronicle the mistakes or the limitations of human thought which have been met and conquered before one has arrived at the point of understanding adequate to enable him to reflect sufficiently clearly the expression of divine intelligence. The Christian Science periodicals are heralding the glad tidings of divine Truth and Love to all quarters of the globe. Every issue of these publications tends to strengthen human hope and purify the atmosphere of so-called mortal mind, as its unfoldment of spiritual understanding is shared with the world.
