Testimonies of Healing

Gratitude for all the activities of...

From the November 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Gratitude for all the activities of the Christian Science organization, as well as for our periodicals and the many helpful testimonies contained therein, impels me to add my own, which is much overdue. It is now over fifteen years since I first heard of Christian Science. I had longed from childhood to be able to believe in the promises, and apply the truths, contained in the Bible. As a family we had been through a very dark time; and I now realize that my longing desire to prove the protecting power of God was fulfilled in the finding of Christian Science, which has since transformed my life. It appeared to me as the fulfillment of all my hopes, and as absolutely natural; and I shall never cease to be grateful to the kind friend who in our family trouble told us of the truth, and whose Sunday school class I had the privilege of attending until the age of twenty.

The family difficulties were healed, and study and application of the truth as revealed by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, have steadily led me since through many dark places into at least some understanding of the allness and love of God, and of how to apply His laws to all problems. I have been healed of a severe internal disorder, of chronic throat trouble, financial lack, tendency to repeated colds, weak nerves, and other minor physical difficulties; but I am more grateful for the reformation of character which is taking place than for its outward manifestation. I find myself being transformed so completely through the renewing of my mind, that I am surely being "born again."

During the war my husband and I experienced complete protection from all ill, he at sea transporting troops, and I living on the east coast of England and in London during many of the air raids. Freedom from fear, to an increasing extent, is not the least of the blessings which have come to me. I had always a very great dread of the sea. This has gradually been overcome; and recently, when on a voyage to Norway and experiencing a three-day gale in the North Sea, when the ship had apparently become uncontrollable, I was conscious of no fear; I only had an abiding conviction of the allness of God and of His ability to take care of every circumstance. The ship sustained no damage, and nobody on board suffered any ill effects whatsoever. I was indeed most grateful for this experience.
