Testimonies of Healing

In 1905 a copy of the Christian Science...

From the November 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In 1905 a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was placed in my hands in the hope that through the reading and study of it I might aid in the healing of disease in one of my family. To what extent I was able to help in that case I do not know, but I know that there came a change for the better in my own mental and physical condition which was marked, and which has been permanent.

Two healings came to me immediately as a direct result of the study of Christian Science on my part, and without outside aid, except such as was offered by my friends in guiding my study. First to be noted was the destruction of the desire for tobacco. I had been a smoker for more than sixteen years, but I quickly found that it was impossible to continue to study Christian Science while using cigar or pipe. Some pertinent statements in Science and Health (pp. 383, 404, 407, 454), directed towards this particular form of slavery, found ready acceptance in my consciousness, and the complete healing which was accomplished has been permanent, notwithstanding a campaign of intensive suggestive and mesmeric advertising, carried on during this period and designed to break resistance and stimulate the use of this narcotic. While this healing was going on my eyesight improved quickly, so that glasses were laid off. My vision was restored to its normal and natural state, and has so remained ever since. Other healings and protection from disease, discord, and distress have been experienced, among which was the overcoming of biliousness, stomach trouble, neuritis, colds, and fevers of various sorts. Some of these healings came promptly, others were protracted; but all were immediate the moment the mental condition causing the trouble was uncovered and destroyed by Truth. Many of these healings were brought about as a result of my own work; but many times the aid of a practitioner was sought and promptly and effectually received.

I am grateful to God, the Giver of all good, and to Christ Jesus, our Example and Way-shower. I am also deeply indebted to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, for her lifelong labor to benefit mankind, especially for the later years of her eventful life, which saw the establishment and growth of the Christian Science movement.—
