Over nineteen centuries ago "the angel of the Lord" announced to the shepherds that there was born that day "in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord;" and then the record declares that "suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." In such manner, so dear to the entire Christian world, there was proclaimed the advent to human consciousness of that Saviour whose divinely redemptive power is still at work delivering mankind from every form of evil, from all sin, sickness, and death.
And can there be any to whom this Saviour is more precious than to Christian Scientists? Certainly not! For through their textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," written by their beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, there is being continually revealed to them a larger, fuller understanding of the priceless nature of the work begun so long ago in that little Judean town. On that first Christmas Day Jesus commenced his earthly career as "the human herald of Christ, Truth;" for in such manner does Mrs. Eddy characterize him on page vii of the Preface of Science and Health.
To none can Jesus' earth-life be more replete with instruction and redemption than to those who find in the textbook of Christian Science the complete and perfectly satisfying explanation, not only of Jesus' words, but of his works and the method whereby he performed them. It is through this explanation that Christian Scientists are being enabled to obey Jesus' command to go and do likewise. There is no experience of Jesus which does not hold some valuable lesson for every student of this Science; and each one knows that except he study and pattern Jesus' precepts and practice, he will lack the understanding and ability whereby he is to demonstrate his own unity with our Father-Mother, God, even as did he who—because he demonstrated the Christ so perfectly—is known as our Way-shower and Saviour.
