I am indeed grateful for the many proofs which have come to me through the study of Christian Science. I am especially grateful for a healing which was experienced several years ago, although the trial at the time seemed great.
My mother was receiving class instruction in Christian Science in another city when I was taken with smallpox. My one thought through it all was that under no circumstances should my mother be called home, as it was just error trying to prevent her from receiving the truth through class instruction. The medical authorities tried to insist that I be removed to a hospital, and at this time the clouds looked dark; but it was an opportunity to prove our Father's loving care. A practitioner was called and a Christian Science nurse was found. The way in which she came to us seemed a miracle to me. The opposition of the board of health to my remaining at home subsided. I was scarcely ill at all, much to the surprise of the board of health, which followed the case. The health department later granted many favors, which only proved that the truth dissolves mistaken ideas concerning Christian Science. I had always feared this disease intensely, because of the supposed necessity of scars as a result. I am very grateful for the demonstration over this particular phase of the disease: I carry no visible scars. I am happy to state that no one contracted the disease as a result of association with me.
I have also been healed of typhoid fever and influenza, the latter entirely by absent treatment. Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 10), "If good enough to profit by Jesus' cup of earthly sorrows, God will sustain us under these sorrows." My prayer is that I may profit, lay off fear, hate, pride, and learn more about God in Christian Science. I am very grateful to all those who have helped me through the trials. I cannot express in words my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for her unselfed love in giving us this truth.— Kansas City, Missouri.
