Testimonies of Healing

When I began the study of Christian Science...

From the February 1927 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When I began the study of Christian Science some seven years ago, I was in bondage to many ills, among them intestinal indigestion, weak heart action, deafness, and mental depression. After reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I realized that these conditions were less real to me; so the healing began. Materia medica was laid aside, although I had depended on it daily for more than twenty years. Divine Love, who "healeth all thy diseases," has been my only physician for six years.

One healing which has meant much progress to me, was that of a dislocated wrist, proving, as Mrs. Eddy says, that "Christian Science is always the most skilful surgeon" (Science and Health, p. 402). One morning in leaving my home I fell down several steps, striking the stone pavement on my hands, dislocating one of my wrists. The pain seemed intense, and the arm was very much swollen and discolored, becoming almost black to the elbow. A practitioner was called over the telephone, and in a very short time I was free from pain. On account of the rules in my place of business, I submitted to examination by a physician. His verdict was that I would not be able to use my hand for six or eight weeks, and unless the bones were adjusted and the arm put in splints my wrist would be crooked. He was very much surprised that I was not experiencing a great deal of pain. Through the consecrated life and loving work of the practitioner the healing was manifested in a few days, and in about two weeks I was able to assume my duties at my place of business, using my hand constantly. There were no material remedies used—not even a bandage.

I have experienced many physical healings, but they are not to be compared to the spiritual regeneration which has taken place. I am striving daily for that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus." Among my many blessings has been the great privilege of class instruction; and for the opportunity of helping my brother man as I have been helped along the way from sense to Soul, I am very grateful. I am increasingly grateful to God, the Giver of every good and perfect gift, to Christ Jesus, the way shower, and to Mrs. Eddy for her unselfed love in giving to this age Christian Science.—
