With a grateful heart I wish to testify to a wonderful healing which I experienced in Christian Science. I suffered so severely from a serious abdominal complaint that I could hardly walk. A physician whom I consulted advised an immediate operation. Gathering from his words that it would be no simple operation, I could not make up my mind to have it performed.
One day some one called my attention to Christian Science. I attended the next Wednesday evening testimony meeting, and was quite surprised at this teaching. I then commenced attending these meetings regularly; and it gradually became clear to me that here was the right way to Truth and healing. I bought the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and read it, paying especial attention to pages 390 to 397. It became so clear to me that it was not necessary to be sick, that my condition began to improve. But this improvement was not permanent, and soon the old condition returned; and I was worse than ever. I had believed that sickness was unreal, but had not gained the right understanding of health. Fear took possession of me, and error whispered, You have a cancer. To know exactly the condition I was in, I consulted a physician, who said I must undergo an operation immediately. But I said I intended to seek help in Christian Science, as I had perfect confidence in it. I then asked for Christian Science treatment, which was lovingly given. After the first treatment the hemorrhage stopped; and after five treatments I was completely healed. I went to the same physician who had previously examined me, and after examining me thoroughly again he decided that I had received a complete healing.
My daughter-in-law, who resided in the Ruhr district, was visiting me in Hamburg with her child, who at that time was four months old, and through me she became acquainted with Christian Science. We attended the Christian Science services together and read the Lesson-Sermons. She was always very anxious about her child.
