Testimonies of Healing

My gratitude will no longer permit...

From the November 1928 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My gratitude will no longer permit me to delay in expressing profound thankfulness for the wonderful revelation of Truth given to the world by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and for the health and happiness which I enjoy to-day because of its ministration.

I shall never cease to be grateful that I had some understanding of Christian Science at the time of a serious illness, and could therefore be surrounded by the tireless love and wisdom of a Christian Science practitioner and a Christian Science nurse; for by their faithful work the "last enemy" was held in abeyance, and during days of unconsciousness and of intense suffering I was sustained. During this experience these words from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 204, 494) stayed with me: "It is evil that dies; good dies not;" and, "Jesus demonstrated the inability of corporeality, as well as the infinite ability of Spirit, thus helping erring human sense to flee from its own convictions and seek safety in divine Science." I did, indeed, find safety in glimpses of the truth that God is All-in-all, the only Life; hope dawned, and as the substance of good, the one loving Mind, was demonstrated through faith and understanding, disease began to disappear and, after several months had passed, I began to lead an active life again in a busy workaday world.

The increased understanding which was gained at that time is invaluable, and I have the happiness of knowing that a member of my family has chosen this better way of working out life's problems. Our testing times are always our growing times, wherein we learn that real strength and endurance lie in prompt obedience and firm adherence to our understanding of Truth. I now have a deeper trust in the healing efficacy of the Bible and of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and wish that I might impart to those struggling doubtfully with the tide of error's claim to reality the assurance which I feel that a sincere, diligent study of these two books, forever increasing the knowledge of God and man's true nature, does supply our every need. It gives peace, health, satisfaction, and a fuller sense of life, life discerned as the result of constant searching for the truths of immortal existence as demonstrated by our Master, the great Metaphysician, who said, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."
