In the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 372), Mrs. Eddy has written, "In Christian Science, a denial of Truth is fatal, while a just acknowledgment of Truth and of what it has done for us is an effectual help." To acknowledge justly everything that Truth has done for me would not be possible in one testimony, but I shall tell of a few of the blessings received.
When I was a child my mother was healed through Christian Science. Although no one else in the small place where we then lived was interested, my mother at once began to study Christian Science. There was no Sunday school for me to attend, and at that age I was not very much interested in the subject, but I was taught to study the Bible Lessons. As years passed and I finished school, I felt the need of help in many ways. It was at this time that I began to study Christian Science far more earnestly. As a result of this study I was led to a practitioner through whose tireless, consecrated efforts and loving help I have received much benefit physically and spiritually. A tendency to heavy colds in winter gradually disappeared, and on two occasions I was healed almost instantaneously of attacks of disease. One case was a severe affection of the side and arm, so that I could scarcely lift my arm. I did not have this diagnosed, but it appeared to be a severe form of rheumatism. As I did not feel able to meet this by my own work, I asked for help, experienced relief quickly, and in a few days was perfectly free from this condition.
I am very grateful for these physical healings, but still more grateful for the spiritual progress made. The study of the Bible, and of Science and Health and the other writings of Mrs. Eddy, which once seemed dull and uninspiring, has become interesting and a source of comfort and inspiration. When I think about Mrs. Eddy, I am glad that there was one pure enough and courageous enough to receive the revelation of Christian Science and give it to the world. I am grateful for her many inspired writings, especially for the chapter on Prayer in the Christian Science textbook.
