NO LOST OPPORTUNITY

From the August 1928 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Straight on its course flies opportunity,
Once gone, unused, 'twill nevermore return."
Thus quotes, with false suggestion, mortal mind.
How freighted with remorse, despondency,
This age-worn dictum! But, no longer blind,
We cease to yield consent, rejoiced to learn
'Tis only one of time's dark brood of cheats
To hinder growth. This welcome light we owe
To Christly Science that divinely meets
Our need for wisdom true. Now each may know
Proved facts, above earth's visioning, which show
God's son forever occupies the place
Of glorious possibilities. Success
Full-orbed his strife awaits, though fruitlessness
The human record tells. He constant lives
In Mind's eternal day, and doth possess
Enduring substance infinite. All grace
And boundless Truth he owns, so heaven gives
No more than Love allots in every hour;
Of vital import, then, is tireless prayer
To recognize real selfhood. It is ne'er
Too late to change thought's basis and o'ercome
The untrue self, corrupt, diseased. With power
Complete we stand endowed to gain Life's sum
Of bliss. What happiness to understand
The opportunity beyond compare
Is always here—to find God's realm, at hand;
Wherein dwells man, the Father's well-loved heir.
