Testimonies of Healing

It is with a sense of increasing love...

From the August 1928 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a sense of increasing love and gratitude that I give this testimony to the healing and regenerating power of Christian Science; and I know that just in so far as I am obedient to this teaching, am I able to prove "God's omnipotence and the healing power of the divine Love in what it has done and is doing for mankind" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 55). Christian Science was given to me at a time when hope seemed to be disappearing, after more than ten years of mental and physical suffering. My case was diagnosed as one of tuberculosis, and the hemorrhages caused by the disease were becoming more frequent. These, necessitating my being in bed for several weeks together, were followed by a slow and tedious convalescence, all of which meant great disorganization in our home, and sorrow and expense for those around me. My husband is a doctor of medicine; so it is needless to add that everything was done, in a medical way, to relieve my suffering; and I am most grateful for all the love and care that were given to me at that time.

Then Science and Health was lent to me by a relative, with the assurance that if I would study it I would be benefited. This I did, at first with but little understanding; but it awoke me to the fact that suffering and sorrow did not come from our all-loving Father, God. The joy and the peace that came with this revelation are hard to express. With my husband's consent I asked a Christian Science practitioner to give me treatment. This was lovingly and patiently undertaken, and very soon I lost the haunting fear of further hemorrhages. These have never returned. With encouragement and help from the practitioner, and the constant study of Science and Health, my understanding increased, and I began to claim my birthright of dominion over the mortal senses, and to enter "into the glorious liberty of the children of God",

Since that time, now over eight years ago, I have had many other healings, both physical and moral, and with each one has come a deeper sense of freedom and a clearer understanding of Love. I am now a perfectly strong, healthy woman, rejoicing in the freedom of an active, busy life. My endeavor is to express my gratitude to God by giving to others this message of comfort and love. I am grateful to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, whose consecrated, loving life enabled her to give us this inspired truth about God and man; and to the dear relative and to the practitioner who led me to the unfoldment of this glorious truth. For membership in The Mother Church, for the privilege of working in various activities in connection with our Cause, which have brought growth and healing, and for the great privilege of class instruction I am indeed grateful. I know that by obediently trying to follow the teachings of Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, I shall gain a deeper wisdom and love, and understand more what he meant when he said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."—
