When God led me to Christian Science I was in dire distress. My mother had been ill for three years, and the doctors we consulted could not help her; they could not even diagnose her case. The evidence was such that her death was expected by all. At the advice of the physician under whose treatment she was at the time, as a last resort she was taken for observation to the hospital, from which she was brought back to me in two weeks with the information that she could live only a week or two, as she was suffering from an incurable disease.
A short time previously I had heard of Christian Science, but I did not know much if anything about its wonderful truths; and yet at that moment, when there was nothing for me to do but seek refuge in God, the redeeming thought came to me: Christian Science teaches that God is good; and if God is good, He will not take my mother from me.
This faith was childlike and simple, and although I did not know what else Christian Science taught, it freed me. Certainty and confidence in God streamed into my consciousness, with floods of love. Hence I could do all that was necessary to do, for the belief in death had been destroyed. We began to study "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy earnestly. It was not always easy for us to understand and demonstrate the wonderful truth, but patience was rewarded in the end.
