Testimonies of Healing

Before taking up the study of...

From the June 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Before taking up the study of Christian Science, four years ago, I had been a great believer in specialists and dietitians for the care and feeding of children. Consequently, I had my three children placed in their care most of the time. My little daughter, now nine years old, was constantly on a diet for stomach trouble, for which the physicians told me they could do little. They said that she must adhere to the prescribed diet if she was to have relief. However, she was not relieved of the attacks of suffering, even though she did not deviate from the diet; in fact, conditions seemed to grow steadily worse.

About this time my sister had a beautiful healing of stomach trouble through Christian Science, and she encouraged me to take up the study. This I did, as I was so discouraged with conditions as they were. The next time my daughter had one of these attacks of pain and fever, I called a Christian Science practitioner. The healing was not instantaneous, but the attacks grew fewer and farther apart, and there was no more fever after the first treatment. In seven months all symptoms disappeared entirely; her appetite became normal, and she developed rapidly into a strong, healthy child. There were many times when the arguments of error regarding food and its effects seemed to clamor for first place, and I can never express my gratitude in words alone for the practitioner who helped me to see that "there is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter," as our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, states on page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Also, the words of our Master, "Whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him," have been helpful many times.

There have been numerous other healings through Christian Science in our family,—of whooping cough, fevers, and influenza, also of financial difficulties,—for all of which I am deeply grateful; but I am especially grateful for a growing appreciation of Christ Jesus, the Way -shower, and his words and works as revealed in the light of Christian Science. I am grateful also for our Leader, whose untiring efforts and unselfishness enabled her to give to this age Christian Science.—
