It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I testify to the healing power of Christian Science. For some years I suffered from stomach trouble, often having to be away from my work for a week or two at a time. The doctors tried different kinds of medicine and treatment, and I was operated on four times; but I only got worse. One night when I was suffering a great deal I was asked whether I would go to the hospital or try Christian Science treatment. Knowing that the doctors could do no more for me, I chose Christian Science and asked for treatment, with the result that I was able to return to work in two days. The complete healing did not come all at once, but with the loving help of a practitioner the trouble gradually disappeared, and for over four years I have been perfectly well.
One day I fell from the top to the bottom of a steep flight of stairs. For a few moments I was stunned but could just remember the first part of "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 468). I was soon able to go to my room and rest for a little while. I tried to realize that there are no accidents in divine Mind, and very soon was able to go on with my work. But I did not "stand porter at the door of thought" (ibid., p. 392). I allowed fear to come in. This showed itself a few days afterwards in the form of severe pain and sickness; and my employers, who were not Christian Scientists, wished me to be examined by a doctor. I feel very grateful to the practitioner who so lovingly helped me during that time to overcome the fear of some internal injury. Although I was very much bruised and swollen before the doctor came to see me, there was not a bruise or a swelling to be found when he examined me. The sickness too had stopped, and the pain had disappeared. He said that he could not find anything wrong with me. I have also been healed of the need of glasses, which I had worn for eighteen years.
I have every reason to be very grateful to God.—Sunbury-on-Thames, Middlesex, England.
