Testimonies of Healing

It is with a deep sense of gratitude...

From the June 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I write of a beautiful double healing that occurred at a Christian Science lecture. I was feeling very poorly that day myself, and was also much distressed about a condition of fever that had taken hold of my elder boy. The lecture that evening was to be given by a lecturer I had heard only a few weeks before, and my thought in attending it was not so much to hear the words of the lecturer as to fulfill a sense of duty, that duty which Christian Scientists feel they owe to attend authorized Christian Science lectures. I had realized that attendance at a lecture not only helped the speaker but also the seekers for Truth who attended. So, with this thought, though feeling weak and dizzy and unable to partake of a regular meal before attending, I set out for the lecture. On the way there came to me the definite assurance that I would be healed of the distressing condition at the lecture.

It was nothing new in the lecture that brought about the healing, just a realization of the oft-repeated and well-known truth; and the healing came when I pondered the words from Scripture quoted by the lecturer, "Yea,a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works." I realized that I was not showing my faith by my works, in that I was not demonstrating the divine Principle of Christian Science, which is Love, toward one who seemed opposed to it. I immediately changed my thought from struggle, resentment, and criticism to love and compassion, and determined to show my faith by my works. This brought immediate healing. At the same time, the boy was healed of an attack of fever from which he had been suffering for five days. This healing of mine may suffice to bring to the thought of those who read of it a realization of the many blessings to be had in partaking of the spiritual feasts prepared for us by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in establishing The Christian Science Board of Lectureship and providing for its continued activity.—
